What is the difference between a general dentist and an endodontist?
General dentists, as you already know, are essential for the health of your teeth and mouth. There are occasions, however, when a specialist is a wise choice. In addition to Endodontics, dental specialties include: dental hygiene, dental sleep medicine, maxillofacial prosthetics, dental oncology, orofacial pain treatment, care of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedics, periodontics and prosthodontics. Each specialty has gone through very specific training.
That is true of Endodontists as well. Endodontists complete at least two additional years of education and training after dental school. Root Canals and associated procedures are all they do…every day. That degree of experience means they have treated every possible challenge. Additionally, Endodontists have very particular equipment that they use daily. Dr. Simcock, uses advanced technology, such as operating microscopes and 3D Dental Imaging to perform these special services. As we discuss on this site, Dr. Simcock uses GentleWave® Ultracleaning Technology which he strongly believes provides a better experience and outcome for patients.
